Botox®  BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein that has the ability to decrease muscular activity. It is a simple, nonsurgical treatment that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the brows, horizontal furrows on the forehead (surprise lines), and crow's feet (squint lines) to the side of the eyes. It can also be used for lines that surround your lips, lines of either side of your nose, and bands or lines on your neck.
Making The Decision For Botox Treatments?
Muscular activity causes overlying skin wrinkles. By injecting Botox® into the muscles causing these lines, they are smoothed out and in some cases completely erased. This therapy is very safe, as the amounts injected for cosmetic use are so small that there are no ill effects The key to proper botox injections is elimination of bruising and swelling, coupled with effacement of wrinkles. A common misconception about botox is that the goal of the procedure is to eliminate facial movement and expression. Sophisticated injectors of botox like Dr. Honrado will preserve facial expression while softening wrinkles.
Understanding The Procedure?
Before injecting, Dr. Honrado will discuss with you your areas of concern. The location, size, and use of the muscles that create lines vary markedly among individuals and this plays a role in how much BOTOX® Cosmetic may need to be injected. Another key component to botox therapy is to carefully map patient facial muscles and removes movement in select muscles while lessening movement in others, thereby creating a natural appearance. A cold pack or anesthetic cream may be used to help reduce discomfort. Dr. Honrado will then administer several tiny injections directly into the muscles that cause lines to occur. What To Expect After The Treatment
The treatment usually takes approximately 10 minutes depending on how many lines need to be treated. Following the injection, there may be some slight redness and swelling that quickly resolves, therefore, there is almost no downtime. You may see improvement in the lines within days although it may continue for as long as a month. Results typically last up to 3-4 months. Some patients on a regular maintenance program report going as long as six (6) months before needing another treatment. Any vigorous activity immediately after injection is not recommended – it can be resumed the following day. However, Dr. Honrado does advocate facial movements. Of note, if a line persists following treatments, you may need additional treatments (laser skin resurfacing, injectable fillers, chemical peels) to help smooth persistent lines. |
